Texas Dental Association: Helping Every Member Succeed

TDA connects dentists with each other, with patients, and with resources for life and career. TDA is a professional membership organization for dentists, and the 3rd largest state dental association in the US. The TDA is part of a tripartite affiliation with the American Dental Association at the national level, and component societies at the local level. The Association has more than 9,200 members, and is composed of 26 local component dental societies, grouped into 4 divisions across Texas.

Call for Nominations - Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation Board of Trustees (2026)

The Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation is now accepting nominations for its 2026 Board of Trustees.

The Foundation invites dedicated individuals to join its mission of improving access to dental care for underserved Texans and educating the public and profession about oral health. We currently have four vacancies on the Board of Trustees and are seeking nominees who are passionate about making a meaningful impact in their communities.

Serving as a Trustee is an opportunity to contribute to impactful initiatives and help shape the future of dental care accessibility across Texas.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will demonstrate:

  • A strong commitment to the Foundation’s mission

  • Leadership experience and strategic insight

  • A vision for advancing oral health and access to care in Texas

Board Member Responsibilities — Key Highlights

Meeting Commitment

  • Attend 3–4 board meetings annually (only one in person)

  • Actively participate in discussions and strategic decision-making

Financial & Strategic Oversight

  • Guide strategic direction aligned with the Foundation’s mission

  • Oversee financial decisions and approve the annual budget

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with 501(c)(3) regulations

  • Participate in board development, elections, and leadership recruitment

Risk Management & Policy Development

  • Develop and enforce risk management policies

  • Approve operational and committee policies

Fundraising & Advocacy

  • Support fundraising efforts, including joining the 100 Club

  • Attend at least one Texas Mission of Mercy (TMOM) event annually

  • Advocate for the Foundation and participate in key events

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in grant reviews and committee oversight

  • Engage in annual performance assessments and policy development

Please note: Travel expenses for meetings are not reimbursed. Trustees are expected to actively support all fundraising initiatives.
