Qualifying Criteria

TXDDS helps people who are over the age of 55 OR people who have a permanent disability. If you do not meet at least one of these criteria, unfortunately we cannot currently help you through the DDS program.

Only a LIMITED number of applications will be accepted in 2009.  You will receive a response postcard within 6 weeks of submitting your application for service.  IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE THIS RESPONSE CARD, YOUR APPLICATION HAS NOT BEEN RECEIVED!

Application Process

1.  If you are 55 or older OR you have a permanent disability, you may call our offices for an application to be faxed, emailed or download the application from this web site. Please note we no longer mail the applications. If you would like an application mailed to you, please send a self addressed, self stamped envelope to 1946 S. IH35, Suite 300, Austin, TX 78704. Before you call, please note that because of the number of applications we receive, we are not able to provide emergency care, and our wait list is about three years.

2. Once you receive the application, please fill it out and send it back to us.

3. Applications are processed in one big batch at the end of each month. The application process can take up to four to six weeks. A post card will be mailed to inform you that we have received a complete and correct application and will be placed on the waiting list.

4.  When your name comes to the top of the list, you will be notified by mail, and a DDS caseworker will interview you by telephone or by an intake form mailed to you.

5. When you are matched up with a dentist, you will go to their office for treatment. You will be responsible for getting to your appointments on time and treating the office staff with respect. Missed or late appointments are grounds for immediate termination, no questions asked. Our volunteer dentist will provide us with your treatment plan, and we coordinate specialist referrals and necessary labwork in order to complete that treatment.

6. Once the recommended treatment plan is complete, your case is completed and you cannot receive care through DDS again, so that we may continue helping others who have been waiting for care.
