Stephen R. Matteson, DDS, FICD, Editor-in-Chief
Dr Steve Matteson attended Rutgers University and obtained his DDS degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1962. Following a 2-year tour as a general dentistry officer in the United States Air Force in North Carolina, he returned to his native state of New Jersey and practiced general dentistry for 10 years. He sold his practice in 1973 and entered the residency in oral radiology at the University of Connecticut and subsequently joined the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry. In 1988, he moved to San Antonio to serve as chairman of the Department of Dental Diagnostic Science at the University of Texas Health Science Center and worked in that capacity until 2000. Dr. Matteson was promoted to professor emeritus in 2002 and is currently a research professor in the Department of Orthodontics where he is participating in a training grant on evidence based practice.
Dr Matteson has served as president of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and the national Supreme Chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the dental honor society. He is a member of the American Dental Association, Delta Sigma Delta, and was inducted into the International College of Dentistry in 2009. He has published 55 articles in the scientific literature and served as radiology section editor of Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology and Endodontology.
Dr Matteson lives in San Antonio with his wife, Mary Ann, and enjoys the company of his three children and five grandchildren all of whom live in the San Antonio region.
Nicole Scott, Managing Editor
Nicole graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock in 2001 with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism. While attending school, she reported for the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal newspaper. Following graduation, Nicole was a news producer for 2 years at KLBK-TV, the CBS affiliate in Lubbock. Her responsibilities included writing the evening newscasts and collaborating with the reporting and anchor teams to deliver an accurate and timely news product. After moving to Austin, Nicole served as an account executive at MQ&C Advertising and Marketing where she worked for 4 years. She managed a number of accounts, serving as the liaison between the agency and clients. Nicole and her husband Adam are proud parents to Luke and Madeline.
Paul H. Schlesinger, Publications Consultant
Paul Schlesinger is a fiddler, vocalist, band leader, voice over artist, photographer, and information technology professional who lives in Taylor, TX. He holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a specialty in photojournalism from the University of Texas at Austin, as well as a certification in Microsoft desktop support.
Born in 1970, Paul’s multiple career paths began during his college photojournalism studies when he was introduced to and became immersed in the world of Texas swing and honky-tonk music, documenting many of its legendary performers. His training in publication design landed him a position in 1994 with the Texas Dental Association in Austin. He served 13 years in their publications department, gaining experience in all aspects of magazine production and editing. In 2007 he became the Association’s IT administrator, a position he holds today.
Barb Donovan, B.S., M.A., TDA Art Director
Barb has a bachelor’s degree in journalism/communication and a master’s in graphic arts and design. She was an editor and production assistant at LA West magazine and at Ann Fielder’s Creations – designing and producing custom invitations for the stars! In her spare time she plays competitive softball, earning a national championship in 2000, has released several original music CDs, and runs a Texas Hold'em poker club.
