CMS Delays Medicare Part D Enforcement Date to 2019

On October 31, 2016, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced it is again delaying enforcement of the Medicare Part D prescriber enrollment requirement to January 1, 2019.

By that date, dentists must be enrolled in Medicare or validly opted out in order for their written prescriptions to be covered under Part D. The American Dental Association continues its advocacy efforts surrounding this issue and is seeking a legislative repeal of the requirement through HR 4062, bipartisan legislation introduced in 2015.
